Choose

"We live in a time of overwhelming opportunity — we’ve just gotta stop being so overwhelmed" - Matt Harding

This is one of those observations that it really pays to ingest, to chew on over and over, because it just keeps on giving, until you’ve unpacked it so much you oggle at the original words, marveling at how much they contained.

The other idea I’m chewing on today: the word "choose." Today I discovered that it’s a lovely word, an uncommonly powerful one despite its low exchange value these days. I love it in the very personal meaning of the word - to embrace fully, to seize on, the "come hell or high water" approach, the fully cognizant acceptance of responsibility and ownership of one’s decisions, and doing all that joyously, greedily, for every decision, at every moment, no matter how momentous and - even more difficultly - no matter how trivial. No cruise control, no autopilot. This is something I understand, but fleetingly, and I’m chasing after it. It’s a black box that I’ve peeked into, and starting today, I’m working on prying it open with the crowbar of my mind. I can do this. I can own this. It’s gonna be great.
